GMU Graduate Programs

Do you want to stand out to hiring managers?
Do you want to have better advacement opportunities in your career?
Do you want a higher salary?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then a master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering should be a definite consideration!  As the largest Computer Science department in Virginia (and the best in my opinion as an alumnus, professor, and practitioner!), GMU has some amazing opportunities to earn your M.S. degree.

If you are already in the B.S. C.S. program at GMU, the Bachelor's Accelerated Master's (BAM) program should be a prime consideration.  Personally, I think this is an opportunity too good to be skipped by anyone who qualifies.  The requirements are simple:  earn a GPA of 3.30 or better in your first 60 hours of the BS CS and complete CS 310 (Data Structures) and CS 330 (Formal Methods).  That's it!  Complete your application when you hit these milestones and then you can double-count  4 graduate courses (12 hours) towards your BS and MS degrees.  You can then take another  2 graduate courses "on reserve" meaning that you pay undergraduate tuition rather than the graduate rates.  That leaves you with 4 remaing courses to graduate with an MS CS or MS SWE degree!    And did I mention there's no application fee, no essay requirement, and no GRE?!

For students already holding B.S. degrees in Computer Science, you have the option to choose between in-person or on-line versions of the M.S.Computer Science degree or an in-person M.S. Software Engineering degree.

Both MS CS and MS SWE degrees are highly valued across the industry.  The CS option will give you further depth in Computer Science theory while the SWE option will give you more of an applied Software Engineering background.  Both programs allow you to share a number of courses, so there's really no wrong choice here.
