Projects are divided as follows:
| Overlord for MP2K in Landscape mode only, NewtonOS 2.x
Being an Evil Overlord is hard work. This 2-week Dates overview makes it easier. |
| Hemlock for NewtonOS 2.x
Hemlock is a free internet search tool for the Newton, extensible through Apple Computer's Sherlock™ plugins. Hemlock requires Newt's Cape in order to run. |
| Waba for NewtonOS 2.x (Beta 1)
Waba for the Newton is an open-source alpha release of the Waba virtual machine ported to NewtonOS 2.x. Waba is a stripped-down version of Java, and highly portable. Waba programs written for the Palm Pilot or Windows CE machine will, for the most part, run without complaint on the Newton under our VM. |
| BigCountdown for MP2x00 or Emate
BigCountdown is a simple timer application with gigantic digits, so it can be seen from far distances.
| Toy Story 2 and other Pixar Backdrop Images for NewtonOS 2.x.
Nine backdrop images made from stills from the Toy Story 2 trailer, plus a few other Pixar pictures. They're meant to be used with Avi's Backdrop on a Newton MessagePad 2000, 2100, or Emate 300. |
| Star Wars Episode I Backdrop Images for NewtonOS 2.x.
Ten backdrop images made from stills of the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace trailer. They're meant to be used with Avi's Backdrop on a Newton MessagePad 2000, 2100, or Emate 300. |
| Emma Peel Backdrop Images for NewtonOS 2.x.
Okay, so I've got an Emma Peel thing. But you do too, don't deny it. Or will if you watch the show. Here are ten backdrop images of Diana Rigg starring as Emma Peel in the 1960's spy show The Avengers. They're meant to be used with Avi's Backdrop on a Newton MessagePad 2000, 2100, or Emate 300.
| The Newton MessagePad 100 Power-Off Page
Newton MessagePad MP100s eventually get sick and turn themselves off as soon as you turn them on. I have a page devoted to curing them of this ailment. |
| CharDict and CharDict+ for NewtonOS 2.x
CharDict is a dictionary of 4000 basic Chinese characters, including definitions, pronounciations in Mandarin and Cantonese, traditional and simplified variants, and usage frequency. CharDict+ is all that plus 2600 or even 14,000 compound Chinese words to boot. |
| Radicals for NewtonOS 2.x
Radicals is a radical/stroke-based Chinese input system designed to be used like Chinese dictionaries are. Native Chinese won't find it very useful, but we non-native students of the language will find it indespensable. |
| Cantonese Yale Romanization Input Module for NewtonOS 2.x
An input module for Joseph Chen's Chinese Input System that he was kind enough to make based on data I had available. |
| Fonts for the Newton
Chinese and laser printer fonts for the Newton MessagePad.
| Books for the Newton
Some books for your perusal. Including a rather complete calorie listing, and Dreyfus and Assange's Underground: Tales of hacking, madness, and obsession on the electronic frontier.
| LDS Scriptures for the Newton
The full set of LDS (Mormon) Scriptures for the Newton (other than the King James Bible, which can be found at Servant Software).

| Resound
Resound is a modular sound editor specifically designed to be extendable through dynamically-loaded modules. Resound is not designed to be the end-all and be-all of sound editors. Rather, it's designed to provide a framework for you to add your own filters and sound-bending tools (``modules"). Think of it as Adobe Photoshop for sound bites. More on Resound. |
| COWS
COWS is a macro language which can be easily embedded into Objective-C applications for a wide variety of uses. COWS works directly from Interface Builder, too! You need this macro language. Download COWS. |
| MiscSoundPalette
The MiscSoundPalette is a collection of sound objects developed during the creation of Resound. It has been donated to the MiscKit, the premiere free objectware library for NeXTSTEP. |
| Robby
Robby is the software version of Robby-the-robot. Robby flashes whenever sound
is recorded or played. Own one today! Robby has now been donated to the
MiscKit
as an example for using various donated libraries. |
| X-Files Style MacOSX Login Panel
This login panel works great on color NeXT boxes; it might even work on OSX boxes, I dunno. :-) Download it in either 16-bit or 24-bit TIFF format. Yes, I know the X-files "X" is actually in a stressed typewriter font. It just doesn't look very good that way; I decided to use Apple's approach. Installation Instructions: To install this login panel, save it somewhere (I suggest /LocalLibrary/Images/OSXLogin.tiff), then log in as root, and bring up a terminal window and type:

| Apple Workspace Manager Icons
These replace the standard NeXTSTEP Workspace Manager Icon. Download the color or white version. Installation Instructions: Back up the old Workspace Manager icon (located at /usr/lib/NextStep/Workspace.app/NeXT.tiff). Then save this new icon in its place. You'll need to be root to do this, and be careful.
