What Is Your Research Problem?

Thanks in part to Wuzhi Xu, 2007.

Here are seven important questions to ask about every research project. Start thinking about these questions when you start your proposal. If you can't answer them when you finish your dissertation, you're not finished.

  1. What is your research topic?
  2. What is the objective of your research solution?
  3. What result do we expect from your research solution?
  4. What methods are used in your research solution?
  5. What information in software is most helpful for your research solution?
  6. What existing testing technique is closest to your research solution?
  7. Is there a path from your solution to eventual adoption by industry?
