Change In MS-ISA Degree Requirements

Effective Fall 2010, the core courses for the MS-ISA program have changed.

The new core consists of the following courses:

  • INFS 612 (Communication Networks)
  • ISA 562 (Information Security Theory & Practice)
  • ISA 564 (Security Laboratory)
  • ISA 656 (Network Security)

CS 571 (Operating Systems), CS 555 (Computer Networks) and ISA 563 (Fundamentals of Systems Programming) are no longer in the core. However, CS 571 and ISA 563 can be used as electives.

Students currently in the program can opt to follow the new degree requirements or stay with the previous requirements. If you decide to follow the new requirements, we recommend that you fill out an updated Plan of Study.

If you would like to follow the new MS-ISA degree requirements but have already taken some core courses following the previous requirements, please note that:

  • If you have taken ISA 562, then this course still applies as a core course.
  • If you have taken CS 555, then this course can be substituted for INFS 612.
  • If you have taken CS 571, then this course will count as an elective.
  • If you have taken ISA 563, then this course will count as an elective

In addition, if you have already taken ISA 564 or ISA 656, then these courses will count as core courses.
