Course Description:
CS755 covers current and emerging issues in advanced
computer networks, protocols and applications. Although the class
consists mostly of lectures delivered by Dr. Simon, the spirit of the class is
that of a seminar. We focus on three
major issues:
- Packet and cell
switched network technologies for real-time communication
- The integration of
networking and new multimedia and real-time applications
- Mobile, wireless and
ad hoc networking
Prerequisites:
- CS 656. No
exceptions!! The reason is that I assume all students have a “basic”
class in networking.
- Notice that the prereqs for CS 656 include the CS 571 and STAT 344,
which I will assume that you already have
Required textbook
and readings:
- William
Stallings, High-Speed Networks Networks and
Internets: Performance and Quality of Service 2nd edition, Prentice
Hall, 2002.
- There will be several papers placed
on line that are used to supplement the material on wired networks, and
to provide the reading material for mobile and wireless networks
Syllabus (AVAILABLE
BEFORE FIRST CLASS)
Project
We will use the CSIM package to design and
simulate network algorithms. Project details will be presented during the
second lecture.
