Information about the Asynchronous Offering of
CS 635 Foundations of Parallel Computing
for Summer 2008
CS 635 is available to a very limited number of students during the Summer 2008 term. In addition to the catalog prerequisites for the course, students will need to
- have previous experience with the GMU NEW Distance Education software system;
- have a current graduate GPA of at least 3.5;
- be highly motivated, have strong time managment skills, and be able to demonstrate the capability of working on their own before enrolling;
- be willing to complete the course in eight weeks between May 19 and July 12, taking two exams on campus, tentatively scheduled for June 14 and July 12 with homework deadlines TBA.
The reasons for these requirements are:
-
The summer class relies on recordings made in the Fall 2003 term when the NEW software was being pilot tested. Some of the course material is not covered completely in these recordings.
- The summer class syllabi will be based on the Fall 2004 (not Fall 2003 when the recordings were made) course content. This information is available on the
CS 635 Fall 2004 Website.
- Please note the course covers a significant amount of material, including two substantial programming projects in MPI which may be developed and tested on an off-campus computer, but must be timed and executed on the VSITE MPI cluster.
- The class is offered through OCPE, so there is a 48 hour drop period - you can only drop within two days of enrolling and paying tuition.
If you satify the requirements and are willing to accept the above conditions, please email Professor Wang (pwang@cs.gmu.edu) for permission to enroll.
