Graduate Certificate in Electronic Commerce
for MS E-Commerce Students

The Graduate Certificate Program in E-Commerce is intended for students who are enrolled in the GMU MS in Electronic Commerce and who wish to specialize their elective courses in the area of E-Commerce Information Systems. This certificate is comprised of five courses that constitute a body of knowledge that will enable students to analyze and design information systems to support e-commerce processes and activities.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the certificate program must meet the following requirements before admission into the EC certificate program:
  1. A student must be enrolled in GMU’s MS in E-Commerce Program, and
  2. Possess knowledge equivalent to the following three George Mason University courses, which are considered foundation courses:
    • INFS 501   Discrete and Logical Structures for Information Systems
    • INFS 515   Computer Organization
    • INFS 590   Program Design and Data Structures
    • SWE 510   Object-Oriented Programming in Java
Students enrolled in a MS in E-Commerce program should contact the Department of Information and Software Engineering for admission to the certificate program.

Certificate Requirements

Certificate candidates must complete the following five courses, with an average grade of B or better, for a total of 15 credits of graduate study:
  • INFS 612   Principles and Practices of Communication Networks
  • INFS 614   Database Management
  • INFS 770* Knowledge Management for E-Business
  • ISA 562     Information Security Principles
  • ISA 767     Secure Electronic Commerce

  • * Students should complete the MS E-Commerce core courses and INFS 614 before taking INFS 770.
